Accra: The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has dismissed a post circulating on social media that claimed the company recorded GHS14.4 billion in losses in 2025, compared to a GHS17 billion profit in 2024.
According to Ghana Web, the report alleged massive losses by ECG. However, in a statement issued via the ECG app on August 5, 2026, the company described the publication as fake. The viral post, dated August 3, 2026, carried the headline 'BREAKING' but was stamped 'FAKE NEWS' by ECG to alert the public.
The company emphasised that the figures being circulated are fabricated and urged Ghanaians to disregard the misinformation. ECG reiterated its commitment to transparency and accountability, assuring customers and stakeholders that accurate financial reports are published through official channels.
The company further cautioned against the spread of unverified information, noting that such false claims undermine public trust and distort the national conversation on energy sector performance.
