Ebi Bright Nominated as First Female MCE of Tema Metro

Accra: President John Dramani Mahama has nominated Ms. Ebi Bright, a three-time National Democratic Congress (NDC) Tema Central parliamentary candidate, as the first female Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) of the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA). She is part of a group of 29 individuals nominated by the President to lead various metropolitan, municipal, and district chief executives in the Greater Accra Region.

According to Ghana News Agency, the Tema Metro area consists of two constituencies, Tema East and Tema Central. The nomination of Ms. Bright comes in response to demands from the Tema Traditional Council and local youth for a native appointee to protect regional customs and traditions. In the 2024 general elections, Ms. Bright narrowly missed becoming the Tema Central MP, losing to Mr. Charles Forson of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) by a margin of just 55 votes.

Meanwhile, Mr. Ludwig Teye Tottimeh, the deputy NDC Tema West constituency secretary, has been nominated as the Tema West Municipal Chief Executive. His appointment marks him as the first male to hold the position, following three women who have previously occupied the seat since the assembly’s separation from the TMA.

Other appointees include Mr. Samuel Tetteh Kwarshie Morton for Kpone-Katamanso, Mr. Raphael Uriel Nartey for Ningo-Prampram, Mr. Freeman Tsekpo for Ashiaman, Mr. Jerry John Foereigner Mills-Nkrumah for Ada West, and Mr. Ignatius Godfred Dordoe for Shai Osudoku. The nominations, as stated in a press release by Mr. Ahmed Ibrahim, Minister of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, comply with Article 243 (1) of the Constitution and Section 20 (1) of the Local Government Act, 2016 (Act 936).
