Koforidua, July 1, GNA – Dr John Ekow Otoo, the Eastern Regional Deputy Director of Public Health of the Ghana Health Service (GHS) has disclosed that about 97 percent of people infected with H3N2 in the Eastern Region have fully recovered.
The region recorded H3N2 cases in nine districts including the New Juaben South, Akuapem South and Fanteakwa North Municipalities and were mostly Senior High School (SHS) students in boarding houses.
Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, Dr Otoo said, “the good news is that the persons who showed signs of H3N2 viral infection started recovering within three to four days of ill-health”.
However, he noted cases of COVID-19 have been going up in the past three weeks and urged the public to take caution by adhering to the preventive protocols.
He, also noted that two cases of Monkey pox had been recorded in some district and a total of 67 contact persons were identified, surveilled, and investigated for Monkey pox to be medically attended to since the incubation period for the virus was five to 21 days.
“Fortunately, the two infected persons are responding to treatment well and none of the 67 contact persons has shown any sign of infection”, he observed
Dr Otoo stressed the need to wear nose masks, wash hands under running water with soap, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer and keep a social distance to avoid contracting any of the three viruses, especially COVID-19.
He advised that any signs of cough, fever, general malaise, vomiting, abdominal pains, and abnormal rashes should be reported to the nearest health facility for medical attention.
Ghana is currently battling with three viruses, COVID-19 which has recorded high mortality rate, H3N2 and Monkey pox. Citizens are admonished to practice all COVID-19 preventive protocols to contain the spread.
