Accra:Former Manchester United star Dwight Yorke has expressed interest in becoming the next head coach of Ghana's national football team, the Black Stars.
According to Ghana Web, Yorke's coaching experience spans both club and international levels. He began his senior coaching career at Macarthur FC in Australia from 2022 to 2023, where he achieved success by winning the Australia Cup. Following his time in Australia, Yorke took on the role of managing Trinidad and Tobago's national team from 2024 to 2026, leading them to qualify for the 2025 CONCACAF Gold Cup.
Yorke's name has surfaced as a potential successor to Carlos Queiroz, who recently parted ways with the Ghana Football Association after the Black Stars' defeats in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. The team lost 2-0 to Cote d'Ivoire and 4-2 to The Gambia, leaving them at the bottom of Group C.
In response to these challenges, a five-member committee has been formed to find a new head coach for the Black Stars. The committee is chaired by former GFA vice-president Fred Pappoe and includes Anthony Baffoe, Agbesi Dzakpasu, former Black Stars captain Stephen Appiah, and high-performance specialist Faisal Chibsah. Yorke's potential appointment would be a significant step in his developing coaching career.
