Dr Paul Amissah Recounts School Bullying in the Bronx and Calls for Stronger Protective Measures

Bronx:Dr. Paul Amissah, a Ghanaian residing in the United States, has shared his experiences of being bullied during his school years in the Bronx, New York. He has called for enhanced measures to safeguard students from similar ordeals.

According to Ghana Web, in a video shared on TikTok, Amissah detailed the bullying incidents he faced, highlighting the need for caution in responding to aggressors. He recounted being stared at by a fellow student who demeaned him by saying he looked ugly and smelled bad, attributing this perception to his African origins.

Amissah noted that even some Black Americans exhibited hostility towards African students. In an attempt to counter the discrimination, he tried skin bleaching, which unfortunately did not stop the bullying. He expressed that although he was strong enough to physically confront bullies while in Ghana, the presence of guns in American schools necessitated a more cautious approach.

His academic success and the support from teachers were pivotal in helping him navigate the challenges posed by bullying. Amissah described himself as a passionate learner, which earned him the goodwill of his educators.

He warned about the severe consequences of bullying, emphasizing the importance of protection and intervention for victims. Additionally, Amissah urged the Ghanaian government to invest in education to foster safer learning environments and prevent tragic outcomes from bullying, referencing the recent death of Ghanaian student Javits Frimpong as a catalyst for discussions on student safety and immigrant treatment in U.S. schools.
