Don’t Let AI Replace Your Obligation to Think – DPC Boss Tells Graduates

Accra: Dr. Arnold Kavaarpuo, Executive Director of the Data Protection Commission (DPC), has urged graduates of the Ghana Communication Technology University (GCTU) not to allow artificial intelligence (AI) to replace their capacity for independent thought, judgment, and human accountability. He emphasized the importance of maintaining human oversight in an era where AI is becoming increasingly integrated into professional environments. According to Ghana News Agency, Dr. Kavaarpuo highlighted that while AI is rapidly transforming workplaces by performing tasks that were once the domain of human experts, it is crucial for graduates to develop the wisdom, creativity, and ethical judgment necessary to use such technology responsibly. He warned against the temptation of becoming overly reliant on AI, stressing the need for individuals to harness AI as a tool to enhance their capabilities rather than a substitute for their cognitive responsibilities. Dr. Kavaarpuo delivered this message as part of his keynote a ddress at the University's Special Congregation held in Accra. His remarks underscored a growing concern in the digital age: the balance between leveraging technological advancements and preserving the essential human elements of decision-making and accountability. By encouraging graduates to use AI to extend their capacity, Dr. Kavaarpuo reinforced the notion that technology should serve as a complement to, rather than a replacement for, human intellect and ethical standards.
