Adaklu: Mr Jerry Yao Ameko, the Adaklu District Chief Executive (DCE), has issued a stern warning that the District Security Council (DISEC) will show no leniency to individuals caught using marijuana within the district. He expressed concerns over reports indicating that some schoolchildren are involved in the use of this substance, describing the situation as alarming.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr Ameko, who also serves as the Chairman of DISEC, emphasized the district's zero-tolerance policy towards marijuana use during a recent event. He made these remarks while attending the commissioning and handing-over ceremony of a newly constructed three-classroom block for the Evangelical Presbyterian Church Primary School at Adaklu Kpatovoe. The facility, funded by the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund), is equipped with 40 modern mono desks in each classroom.
Mr Ameko highlighted the serious health risks associated with marijuana use, which include impaired brain development and various mental health challenges such as depression, anxiety, anger, irritability, mood swings, and even suicidal tendencies. He dispelled the myth that marijuana could enhance academic performance or aid in effective studying, advising the youth to avoid the drug to safeguard their academic and future prospects.
The DCE also revealed that drug peddlers are increasingly targeting young individuals in the district. DISEC is actively working to identify and apprehend these individuals. Mr Ameko called on traditional authorities, religious leaders, and other stakeholders to support efforts in eradicating this menace from the district.
Furthermore, he urged the youth to utilize various government programs and interventions designed to improve their lives instead of resorting to drug use. He also appealed to parents to prioritize their children's education, emphasizing the significant long-term benefits of such investments.
