Defilement: Victim’s Family Praises DOVVSU, Recommends Promotion for Two Personnel

Sunyani: The family of a 14-year-old victim of defilement has praised the personnel of the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) in the Bono Region for their expeditious investigations in serving justice to the victim.

According to Ghana News Agency, Madam Adwoa Serwaa, the victim's grandmother, expressed the family's gratitude towards DOVVSU, particularly highlighting Chief Inspector Isaac Asare and Lance Corporal Abraham Takyi for their dedication. In an interview in Sunyani, she mentioned the family's ongoing prayers and gratitude for the officers, hoping for their continued success and recognition.

Madam Serwaa urged the Police administration to consider rewarding and promoting the two officers due to their commitment to justice. The commendations followed the successful arrest, prosecution, and sentencing of Kwaku Solomon, a 39-year-old cocoa farmer from Nkrankrom in the Sunyani Municipality.

Reports from the DOVVSU office indicate that the convict appeared in court on June 11, 2026, where he pleaded guilty to defilement. Presiding over the case, Jennifer Pokuaa Amponsah sentenced him to eight years of imprisonment. Additionally, the court imposed a one-year sentence for 'failing to name a child,' both sentences running concurrently.

The victim, whose identity is withheld, was living with a relative in Nkrankrom where the incident occurred. The convict defiled and impregnated her, initially promising to care for her and the unborn child but later failing to do so. The victim's grandmother, residing in Tekyikrom near Drobo, reported the matter to DOVVSU after learning of the incident.

Ghana News Agency also reported that the victim gave birth six months ago, concluding a challenging chapter in her young life and marking a new beginning with the justice served.
