London: Media personality DJ Slim has provided insights into the use of curtains during Ghanaian musician Stonebwoy's BHIM Festival concert at the OVO Arena Wembley in London. Speaking on 'Street Is Watching', DJ Slim elaborated on why certain sections of the auditorium were covered with curtains.
According to Ghana Web, DJ Slim explained that curtains are commonly used in arenas for capacity adjustment. When an event does not sell tickets to fill the venue's full capacity or when organizers anticipate a specific crowd size, curtains can block off upper tiers or certain sections. This strategy makes the venue feel more intimate instead of leaving large, empty spaces.
DJ Slim further noted that curtains also serve an acoustic purpose, especially in large venues where sound can echo. Heavy fabric curtains absorb sound waves, reducing reverberation and making music and vocals clearer for the audience.
He argued that covering the upper sections of the auditorium was a deliberate decision to enhance the experience for Stonebwoy's fans. The section was not available from the start of ticket sales, indicating a planned arrangement to minimize echo and improve sound quality.
Additionally, DJ Slim mentioned that curtains can impact lighting and production. Dark fabrics are used to create a better visual environment, making the performer stand out more clearly for fans who are far from the stage.
Stonebwoy's concert marked a historic moment as he became the first Ghanaian artist to headline at the OVO Arena Wembley. The performance, which took place on August 15, 2026, was part of his annual BHIM Festival, brought to the UK for the first time. The 12,500-capacity venue celebrated Ghanaian music, culture, and heritage, with several Ghanaian and African artists, including Kwabena Kwabena, Tiwa Savage, and Mr P, supporting Stonebwoy.
