Accra: Mr. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, Speaker of Parliament, has called on Christian leaders and believers to embody Christlike virtues to shape both the church and the nation. He emphasized that faith and dedication to God are pivotal in achieving personal aspirations and contributing positively to national development.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Bagbin addressed participants at the Lausanne Christian Leadership Consultation held in Accra, themed 'Christlike Leaders for Every Church and Place.' The Speaker highlighted his Christian faith as a guiding force in his life and professional journey, recalling his early involvement in a Christian movement during his time as a legal practitioner. He stressed the importance of belonging to communities that foster faith and spiritual growth, asserting that commitment to God enables individuals to accomplish remarkable feats.
Mr. Bagbin urged participants to remain steadfast in their faith, drawing on the teachings of Christ to guide their actions. As a devout Catholic, he expressed gratitude for the opportunity to join the gathering and thanked God for His guidance throughout his life. Additionally, he welcomed attendees to Ghana, describing the nation as hospitable and respectful, and expressed optimism about the future of Christianity in the country. He also advocated for the responsible use of technology, including Information Technology and Artificial Intelligence, for societal benefit.
Apostle Opoku Onyinah, Former Chairman of the Church of Pentecost and Board Member of the Lausanne Movement, opened the consultation by expressing gratitude to God and the Lausanne Movement Ghana for his appointment as Chairperson. He emphasized the significance of the gathering for Christian leaders to share ideas, deepen their commitment to God, and reflect on the future of Christianity. Apostle Onyinah highlighted the vital role of the Church in Ghana's national development and urged participants to rely on the Holy Spirit's inspiration during their discussions.
He underscored the need for long-term missionary planning, noting that the mission of God requires strategic and sustained efforts. The consultation is part of preparations for a larger Lausanne Christian Leadership Consultation expected in Ghana in August. Workshops and forums have been organized to discuss ways of demonstrating Christian values in workplaces and communities.
Mr. Francis Owusu, International President of the Full Gospel Business Men's Fellowship International, encouraged Christians to embrace their role as soul winners, emphasizing that the calling extends beyond church leaders to every believer. He urged Christians to appreciate their responsibility to share the gospel and contribute to the salvation of others, asserting that every believer is called to be the hands and mouth of Jesus to reach others.
