Chelsea Sign World Cup Winner Emiliano Martinez for £7.5m from Aston Villa

Chelsea: Chelsea have successfully completed the signing of Argentina's World Cup-winning goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez from Aston Villa for a transfer fee of £7.5 million. This marks the eighth transaction between the two clubs over the past four years, highlighting a particularly active trading relationship.

According to Ghana Web, the 33-year-old Martinez, who played a pivotal role in Argentina's World Cup victory in 2022, has agreed to a three-year contract with Chelsea. Martinez, who previously played for Arsenal, joined Aston Villa in 2020 and made 256 appearances, notably contributing to Villa's Europa League triumph last season.

Martinez expressed his excitement about joining Chelsea, stating, "I'm delighted to be at this football club. Coming to Chelsea, for me and my family, was an easy decision to make and I'm just over the moon - I can't wait to get started. I want to be successful here. I'm someone who wants to win at everything I do and I want to bring that here to this football club because it's a football club that wins titles, so I think it's a good match."

This move follows the recent transfer of Nicolas Jackson from Chelsea to Aston Villa, as the two clubs continue their trend of player exchanges. Since BlueCo assumed control of Chelsea in 2022, the clubs have engaged in numerous deals, including Carney Chukwuemeka's £20 million transfer to Chelsea that summer.

The ongoing transfer activity between Chelsea and Aston Villa has resulted in significant financial exchanges, with Chelsea paying a total of £163.5 million for Villa players, while Villa has spent £102.5 million on Chelsea players. This figure could potentially increase to £150.5 million if certain conditions are met for making Alejandro Garnacho's loan move permanent. Chelsea believes these criteria are likely to be achieved.
