CHAG Conference: Health Minister Urges Institutions to Maintain Professional, Ethical Standards


Koforidua: Mr Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, Minister of Health, has urged institutions to maintain professional and ethical standards in the provision of healthcare services. Speaking at the 2025 conference of the Christian Health Association of Ghana (CHAG) in Koforidua, he called on practitioners not to discriminate against patients in public or private facilities.



According to Ghana News Agency, the Health Minister emphasized collaboration among institutions, stressing that fairness and patient safety should remain the principles of quality public healthcare service delivery. He remarked that treating patients with care, dignity, and respect has become his signature message since assuming his role. The importance of visiting health facilities to gain first-hand information about their operations was also highlighted.



Mr Akandoh underscored the significant role of CHAG in Ghana’s healthcare system, commending the dedication of staff at various facilities. He noted that CHAG facilities have been vital in providing healthcare services in remote communities, standing as symbols of compassion and healing. He praised CHAG for delivering over 30 percent of health services nationwide and recognized their role as custodians of faith, dignity, and humanity in the health system.



Reaffirming the partnership with CHAG, Mr Akandoh acknowledged challenges in the sector and expressed his commitment to addressing issues such as personnel posting and salary delays to boost workforce morale. He emphasized that clinical procedures should be accompanied by a warm human connection, ensuring every patient encounter is a moment of compassion and hope.



The Annual Conference brought together key national health leaders and faith-based stakeholders to discuss the future of ethical and value-driven healthcare in the country. It was held under the theme: ‘Sustaining Christian Identity, Values, and Ethics in Health Systems Strengthening.’ The event examined the Ministry of Health’s priorities for the 2026-2029 Health Sector Medium-Term Development Plan and focused on strengthening CHAG institutions through responsible leadership, effective resource management, financial governance, and sustaining quality healthcare.
