Cedi Steady, Holds at GHS10.92 to $1 on January 29

Accra: The Ghana cedi, in the last week of January 2026, is trading at GHS10.92 to the US dollar on the Bank of Ghana's interbank foreign exchange market. Data released by the central bank on Thursday, January 29, 2026, showed the dollar buying at GHS10.91 and selling at GHS10.92.

According to Ghana Web, other major currencies also recorded slight movements. The euro traded at GHS13.02 (buying) and GHS13.03 (selling), while the pound sterling was quoted at GHS15.03 (buying) and GHS15.05 (selling).

At forex bureaus, however, rates were significantly higher. The dollar was being bought at GHS11.50 and sold at GHS12.90, showing a much wider margin than the Bank of Ghana's narrow spread. The euro traded between GHS13.20 and GHS14.10, while the pound ranged from GHS15.30 to GHS16.20.

These higher bureau rates reflect strong demand for foreign currency and limited supply, a trend often seen at the start of a new financial year. Meanwhile, the Bank of Ghana is expected to continue its interventions in the coming months to reduce volatility. Investors and traders will also be watching closely for how upcoming monetary policy decisions and external inflows could affect the cedi's performance.
