Samuel Boadu charged for failing to show up for post-match interview

Berekum Chelsea head coach Samuel Boadu and the club find themselves facing charges for allegedly violating Ghana Premier League regulations following their match against Legon Cities FC.

The charges specifically point to breaches of Section 38 (8) (a) and Section 34 (6) (a) of the 2019 regulations.

The issue stems from the allegation that the club failed to produce Boadu for the mandatory post-match press conference, with Boadu himself accused of deliberately avoiding attendance, which is deemed misconduct tarnishing the game’s reputation.

The club and Boadu have until May 9, 2024, to provide responses to these charges, marking a crucial period for their defense.

This incident underscores the significance of adhering to regulations and upholding a positive image of the sport.

The mandatory post-match press conference serves as a vital platform for coaches to communicate their insights and reflections, fostering transparency and engagement with the media and fans alike.

Berekum Chelsea will next take on
Hearts of Oak on Wednesday in the Ghana Premier League at the Golden City Park.

Watch how Madrid question made Mbappe cut short live TV interview after UCL semi-final defeat

Kylian Mbappe stormed out of an interview after Paris Saint-Germain’s Champions League semi-final loss to Borussia Dortmund.

After PSG lost 2-0 on aggregate to Dortmund in the last four of the competition on Tuesday night, the 25-year-old was asked if he would be supporting Real Madrid when they take on Bayern Munich in their semi-final second leg on Wednesday. The French World Cup winner looks set to move to Los Blancos this summer but he did not take kindly to the journalist’s question.

When the former Monaco man was asked if he would support Madrid in their crunch clash against Bayern, Mbappe rolled his eyes and immediately left the mixed zone.

This loss is likely to be the last time Mbappe plays for PSG in the Champions League, as their bid to join Marseille as the only French side to win the competition fell short once again. The forward has won more than a dozen domestic trophies since joining the Ligue 1 outfit in 2018 but the biggest prize still eludes them.

While either Madrid or Bayern will face
Dortmund in the Champions League final at Wembley on June 1, PSG return to Ligue 1 action on Sunday night when they host Toulouse, followed by a trip to Nice on May 15.

Businessman revives colts football in Obuasi East

A private businessman with passion for the development of football at the grassroots, has singlehandedly sponsored the just ended colts league in the Obuasi East District.

Mr. Peter Armah Kpolly who is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Big Peiro Company, a tailing construction firm, provided funds and other logistics including jerseys, footballs and public address system for all the 120 matches played during the U-13, U-15, U-17 leagues.

Football in Obuasi has taken a nosedive in recent years despite producing numerous talents who have represented the nation at various levels.

Notable among them were former Black Stars captain John Mensah, Jonathan Mensah, Mubarak Wakaso, Shaibu Yakubu and Abdul Issah Rahman, among others.

The downward trend of football in Obuasi, according to connoisseurs of the game, has been aggravated by the ban imposed on Ashanti Gold Football Club which had for many years been the mainstay of football in the mining town.

Speaking during the finals of the colts league in Obuasi,
Mr. Kpolly said he was motivated by the pool of football talents in Obuasi who needed to be unearthed to reach their potentials.

He said Obuasi had a rich history of producing football talents and called on relevant authorities and individuals to invest in the sport.

‘I want to throw a challenge to business owners to turn our attention to grass root football which serves as a breeding ground for football talents. Investing in football would give hope to the youth who would want to harness their God- given talent,’ the businessman stated.

Mr. Abdul Kadiri Issah, Chairman of the Obuasi East District Football Association, applauded Mr. Kpolly for sponsoring this year’s edition of the Obuasi East colts league.

He said the goal of the Association was to bring back the love of colts football and nurture young talented players in Obuasi East so that in the next five to ten years some of them would be part of the various national teams.

The Association is also adopting the ‘catch them young’ refereeing policy of
the Ghana Football Association as part of a broad strategy to develop football in the district.

Berekum Chelsea won’t be charitable with Hearts of Oak – Defender Yaw Darkwah

Berekum Chelsea’s defender, Yaw Darkwah, is gearing up for their match against Hearts of Oak with fierce determination to inflict a painful defeat on the Phobians.

Hearts of Oak are coming into this game on the back of a fifth defeat in six games and are three points away from the relegation zone.

The showdown is set to take place at the Golden City Park. Darkwah made it clear that they won’t go easy on the struggling Phobians.

Speaking to ghanasportspage.com, Darkwah outlined the intensity of their approach, indicating that every point matters as they strive to achieve their season objectives.

“It’s a professional league we are playing, not a charity league, so we won’t spare Hearts. We set our target even before the season started, but now getting into the top four is becoming difficult. When you look at the second position to the tenth position, no one has cemented a spot within the top four, so Hearts not being in good shape doesn’t mean we should give it to them easily; it’s never possible,” Darkwah
told ghanasportspage.com.

“We want to be in the top four if we can’t win the ultimate to help our players. Your position on the league log can even increase your value as a player, so we aren’t going to make things easy for them (Hearts),” he declared.

Local players not ready to play for the Black Stars – Augustine Arhinful

Former Ghanaian international Augustine Arhinful has revealed that some local players may not be prepared to earn a spot on the senior national team, the Black Stars.

Despite calls from fans over the years to include home-based players in the national squad alongside foreign-based ones, Arhinful, a former Ashgold forward, expressed in an interview with Graphic Sports that many local players lack the necessary experience and may require the presence of foreign-based players to strengthen the team.

“While we can consider selecting the best local talents for the national team, relying solely on local players may not be feasible,” he stated.

Arhinful pointed to the disappointing performance of the local Black Stars at the recent Championship of Africa Nations (CHAN) tournament in Algeria as evidence to support his stance.

Ghana’s inability to advance beyond the group stage led Arhinful to question whether local players are adequately prepared to compete at the highest level without the support of more seasone
d teammates.

“Last year, during the CHAN competition in Algeria, our local Black Stars failed to progress from the group stage. Observing their performance, we must consider whether these same players are ready to compete at the AFCON,” he remarked.

The Black Stars are set to play their next game in June for their 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Mali and the Central African Republic.
