Akufo-Addo’s economy has made Ghanaian women cheap – Oboy Siki

Renowned Kumawood actor Oboy Siki believes the hardship in the country has compelled Ghanaian women to sleep with men for money to survive.

According to him, most women have lowered themselves to men to live a comfortable life.

He said some of these women have developed very humble ways to demand money from men; some having to fake hunger even when they need money for other purposes.

When asked what he thinks can be described as cheap in the country, he said the only thing that has become cheap under the current government is women.

Former Speaker Prof. Oquaye backs John Boadu for NPP General Secretary race

Former Speaker of Parliament, Professor Michael Aaron Oquaye says it will be suicidal for the ruling New Patriotic Party, (NPP) to replace John Boadu as General Secretary of the party.

Professor Oquaye says John Boadu has been tried and tested and will lead the party to victory in 2024.

“The man has been tried, tested and proven. He’s very energetic, very obedient. He’s always smiling with all types of people and working together,” Mr. Oquaye said.

John Boadu also previously said it will be in the best interest of the party to re-elect him ahead of the 2024 elections.

About five persons including John Boadu have so far hinted at their intentions to contest for the position.

But the incumbent General Secretary believes none of the aspirants measures up to his wealth of experience.

Speaking on Face to Face on Citi TV last month, John Boadu said it would be politically unwise for the delegates to sidestep him for another General Secretary, considering the worth of investment the NPP has made in him over the years.

The incumbent General Secretary launched his campaign on Tuesday.

Team GNFS commemorates fire safety campaign week with float

Tema, June 01, GNA – The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) Tema Regional Command has launched a fire safety campaign with a float in the Tema Metropolis.

The campaign is to intensify public education and raise people’s consciousness of fire safety precautions.

The campaign on the theme: “Safer Environment; Key to Investment,” is also aimed at raising public awareness about the dangers associated with undesired fires and preventive measures to enhance safety in various communities.

Assistant Chief Fire Officer I (ACFOI) Madam Doris Lamptey, the Tema Regional Commander, who launched the campaign said it was to ensure that GNFS got closer to the community while outlining the management of unintended fire outbreaks in any environment they found themselves.

She explained that the campaign would also allow the service to spell out its mandate to the members of the community and encouraged them to fall on the GNFS in times of emergency.

She said the activities scheduled for the week included float, which is meant for sensitization, fire safety inspections in companies and institutions, display of fire service equipment, and a simulation exercise on the last day.

ACFOI Lamptey mentioned that the continuous raising of awareness and sensitizing the public had reduced the fire cases in the Region saying that “on the average, we normally would have about 40 to 45 fires in a month, but within this month we have come down to 22 to 23 fires and it’s an encouragement because the awareness creation has brought us this far”.

She said the service would not relent but continue the education until the cases reduced drastically in the region noting that, there was a fire safety campaign team that engaged the residents on daily basis on the need to adhere to fire safety protocols to save lives and property.

The Tema Regional Commander cautioned Ghanaians to open their doors for the fire service persons when they visit their homes for education.

Special Prosecutor petitioned to probe alleged corruption offenses associated with NPP executive elections’

The Special Prosecutor has been petitioned to use his office to look into alleged corruption offenses that characterised the election of executives during the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP’s) regional elections.

Various regions in the country turned hot over the past weekend when the ruling party held its regional elections.

Unfortunately, the elections were not free from in-party fighting. Clashes recorded led to speculations and allegations that some candidates paid bribes to delegates to be voted for.

Having heard of these allegations, Member of Parliament for Bawku Central Hon. Mahama Ayariga has officially written to the Special Prosecutor to take an interest and investigate all corruption offenses.

“I write to draw your attention to widespread reports on the social media, which were equally discussed on the radio, that the offences of corruption, bribery, treating and undue influence did take place at the congresses of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to elect regional executives of the NPP in all the regions of Ghana.

“Some candidates are reported to have confirmed some of the reports. These elections, which were by law public elections, were held under the auspices of the Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana,” a letter from the Bawku Central MP copying the Office of the Special Prosecutor and the Ghana Police Service reads.

It adds, “Bribery, treating and undue influence are clearly defined in sections 33, 34 and 35 of Law 284. Section 256 of the Criminal Code, 1960 (Act 29) also deals with corruption in relation to elections.

“Your mandate as Special Prosecutor extends to investigating allegations of corruption by politically exposed persons and prosecuting them where there is evidence to substantiate the charges. For those who do not qualify as “politically exposed persons.”
