Kotoko CEO Nana Yaw Amponsah reveals how snake bite halted his dream of becoming a footballer

Asante Kotoko Chief Executive Officer [CEO], Nana Yaw Amponsah, has recounted how he survived a snake bite that halted his football career.

The young and enterprising football administrator is famously remembered for contesting the 2019 Ghana Football Association [GFA] presidential elections.

Speaking on the Dentaa Show, the player agent said he spent more than three months after a snake bit at the hospital and when he recovered, he could no longer play football.

He further revealed that he has always wanted to be involved in football, so when he wasn’t able to play anymore, he decided to veer into another aspect of the game.

“I went to a neighbor’s house to fetch water and I was with the neighbor’s son. While we were fetching the water a frog passed by and the boy was running away. So I was like why are you running by the time I realized a big black cobra had tied my leg, bite me, and left,” Nana Yaw Amponsah said.

“I fell and started crying, people came out to check me and they immediately took me to the Tema General Hospital and I had to be given anti-snake bite but they had run out of stock.

“My dad and uncle went out to get one, the one they got had expired but they had to inject me like that and at some point, I understand I was pronounced dead but I survived. I had survived a scorpion bite before that.”

He added: “I spent three months and three weeks at the hospital and at a point my leg was rotten and they were going to amputate my leg but the senior doctor came and opted for what we call skin grafting and they did that to fix my leg.”

“I went home to continue with life but that stopped me from playing football because it had damaged my foot. This and after surviving a scorpion bite made me believe that until God takes my life, no one can take it.”

Nana Yaw Amponsah was appointed as Asante Kotoko CEO in August 2020 and has made a great impact in his time at the helm.

We want Kudus Mohammed to gets more game time at Ajax – Black Stars assistant coach George Boateng

Black Stars assistant coach, George Boateng says everybody wishes Kudus Mohammed gets more game time at Ajax ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The 21-year-old was on the verge of joining Everton this summer due to lack of game time at the Dutch champions.

Kudus boycotted training on Wednesday to force a move away from the club.

Despite his impressive performance in pre-season, the former Right to Dream Academy product has not started any game in the ongoing season.

Boateng, who started his professional career with Feyenoord in the Netherlands, believes it is not time for Kudus to leave Ajax because there is a lot to learn at the club.

“We as staff, we are not just only coaches for the players, we are also guardians; we look after them, we discuss, there’s a lot of advice being asked over time,” Boateng told Joy Sports.

“In terms of Kudus, we don’t know the ins and outs of everything. All we do know is that there’s an interest from another club in the UK.

“I think he’s developing very well. He’s in a country where football is of a high level. I’m sure if you speak to Mo, he would say he’s learned a lot in his time at Ajax.

“Whether it is time for him to leave? I’m not quite sure but all we would like to have is Mohammed Kudus to play more games, and start more [ahead of the World Cup].

“He’s had a very good preseason and when we had discussions, I complimented him about it and I said, ‘you have to keep going because this is the requirement, all you can do is perform well.

“Every time you are called upon, play well.”

It’s now clear Mohammed Kudus will stay at Ajax ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup and will need to fight for playing time before the tournament in November and December.

It’s your duty to ensure fans fill the stadium – GFA capo Kurt Okraku tells clubs

Ghana Football Association (GFA) President, Kurt Okraku has made a passionate appeal to clubs to ensure their fans troop to the stadium to watch their games.

Attendance at the various stadia in the topflight and lower division has been poor in the past years.

With the 2022/23 Ghana Premier League scheduled to kick off next week at various venues, Mr. Okraku has appealed to the clubs to get their fans to the stadium.

“Our fans are not consuming our football, they are absent in our venues. It’s not the responsibility of the FA to ensure fans troop to the stadium,” he said during Congress at Prampram on Tuesday.

“The clubs must be practical, and proactive and put up strategies to bring back the fans. Go down the streets and speak to them, listen to them, and know their concerns.

“If you fail to bring the fans sponsors like betPawa and Malta Guineas will not come on board,” he added.

The 2022/23 betPawa Ghana Premier League kicks off on September 9.
