Accra: Carlos Queiroz has stepped down as head coach of Ghana's senior national football team, the Black Stars, following the country's exit from the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Ghana's World Cup journey came to an end after a narrow 1-0 defeat to Colombia in the Round of 32, bringing an end to the Black Stars' hopes of progressing further in the tournament.
According to Ghana Web, in a farewell message shared on social media on July 5, 2026, the Portuguese tactician reflected on his time with the national team, saying football teaches an important lesson, "You either win or you learn." Queiroz expressed pride in the team's achievements while acknowledging a sense of unfulfilled ambition. He emphasized that reaching a higher level should be the beginning of greater ambitions.
The former coach highlighted that the future success of the Black Stars depends on both on-field performances and strong off-field structures. He stressed the importance of creating an environment conducive to the development of Ghana's football talent.
