Accra: The race for the New Patriotic Party's national executive positions has taken a twist as Carlos Ahenkorah, former Member of Parliament for Tema West, has officially declared his intention to contest the position of National Treasurer.
According to Ghana News Agency, the former Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry announced his decision through a statement issued in Accra. He mentioned that his decision was made following 'extensive consultations with grassroot members, constituency and regional executives, and party elders across the country.' Mr. Ahenkorah emphasized the importance of a strong and transparent treasury as the NPP prepares for the 2028 general election.
He outlined the necessity for a financial system that is 'transparent, efficient, and growth-oriented,' ensuring resources reach the grassroots in time to support polling station and constituency operations. He stressed that 'every cedi that comes in and goes out must be accounted for,' highlighting the need for timely resource allocation to facilitate constituency operations, polling station mobilization, and election day activities.
The former Tema West MP committed to enhancing financial accountability, expanding the party's fundraising efforts, and maintaining discipline in the management of party funds if elected. He also pledged to collaborate with the national leadership to ensure that funds are allocated fairly and transparently to support the party's objectives.
Mr. Ahenkorah remarked that his experience in managing budgets as an MP and former deputy minister had equipped him for this role. He urged delegates to support his candidacy, emphasizing that a financially strong and united NPP is essential for rebuilding public trust and regaining power.
The NPP is scheduled to hold its national executive elections later this year.
