Cargo truck plunges off ferry in River Oti at Dambai

Dambai (O/R), July 13, GNA- A cargo truck loaded with logs turned upside-down, when entering the ferry onshore at the Dambai section of the river Oti.

The truck with registration number AS 3227-G was enroute to Checki over-bank of the Krachi Nchumuru District of the Oti Region, when the incident occurred.

The ferry which was transporting scores of passengers and cargo vehicles loaded with goods was disrupted as the truck was towed up.

G/Sqt Zakaria Asharift, of the Motor Traffic and Transport Division, who confirmed the incident to the Ghana News Agency said the driver, who sustained some injury on his shoulder was taken to hospital for treatment.

He said many logs fell into the river with some goods destroyed.

Some drivers in an interview with Ghana News Agency attributed the incident to shoddy works and lack of space for contractors working on the landing site.

They called on the Ministry of Transport and Highway and the Volta Lake Authority to bring the contractor back to site to complete the work.
