Adenta:A businessman appeared before the Adenta Circuit Court, facing charges related to an alleged visa fraud scheme involving the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Kwaku Duah is accused of defrauding a colleague of US$3,000 and GH¢20,600 by promising to secure United States and Canadian visas for the event. Duah, who has pleaded not guilty, was granted bail by the court, presided over by Angela Attachie, in the amount of GH¢60,000 with two sureties, one of which must be justified with landed property. His passport has been submitted to the court registry, and the case is set to continue on February 17, 2027.
According to Ghana Web, the prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Maxwell Lanyo, presented that the complainant, a businessman from Adenta, met Duah in March 2026 through an introduction by John Teiko. Duah was initially introduced as a friend in need of spare parts for his tipper truck, which the complainant supplied. Following this transaction, Duah claimed to have connections to a top official at the National Sports Authority (NSA) and introduced a personal assistant named Gyamfi, who could allegedly help secure the visas.
Duah reportedly informed the complainant that a fee of US$4,500 was required by the NSA for the visa, but the complainant could only provide US$3,000. As a workaround, Duah suggested that the complainant supply truck parts valued at GH¢18,300 and pay an additional GH¢2,300 as a visa fee, along with the US$3,000.
The prosecution detailed that when the visa interview was delayed, the complainant's inquiries were met with hostility from Duah, who ceased communication. This prompted the complainant to report the matter to the Adenta Police. Investigations revealed that Duah had misrepresented his connections, with no actual links to the NSA and no scheduled visa interview. The complainant's passport was retrieved from Duah upon his arrest.
