Bryan Acheampong Pledges to Rebuild Blue Light Market in Kumasi Within 12 Months

Kumasi: Mr. Bryan Acheampong, Member of Parliament for Abetifi, has made a commitment to rebuild the Blue Light Market at Adum within 12 months, contingent upon receiving permission from the Asantehene and the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA). This pledge comes in response to the recent fire disaster that devastated the market, leaving numerous traders without a source of income.

According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Acheampong emphasized the importance of restoring the market to provide traders with a suitable location to resume their business activities. During his visit to the affected traders in Kumasi, he expressed his willingness to construct a solid structure for the market within a year, should Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, and the KMA grant their approval.

In addition to his rebuilding pledge, Mr. Acheampong donated GHc 300,000.00 to aid those who suffered losses from the fire on March 21, 2025. The fire incident, which occurred in the central business district of Kumasi, resulted in the complete destruction of the Blue Light Market, affecting thousands of traders and plunging them into financial distress.

Mr. Acheampong conveyed his condolences to the traders, acknowledging the difficult situation they face. He reassured them of his commitment to helping them recover by rebuilding the market that had been severely impacted.

The traders expressed gratitude for Mr. Acheampong’s support and his assurance of rebuilding the market. The donation and the prospect of a new market structure have brought renewed hope to the traders whose livelihoods were disrupted by the fire.
