Breast Cancer Education Initiative: Queen Mother Engages Akatsi Senior High Students.

Akatsi: Mama Seteakpe ll, the Queenmother of Live-Bedzokope in the Avenor Traditional Area, has reinforced her commitment to women empowerment and gender balance education in Ghana. Mama Seteakpe, who also serves as the CEO of the Mama Seteakpe ll Foundation, shared her vision of shaping the future of young girls and boys through public engagements and support, particularly during their adolescent years.

According to Ghana News Agency, Mama Seteakpe expressed these views during an interaction with students at Akatsi Senior High Technical School (Akast), where she addressed breast cancer-related issues. Her initiative aims to raise awareness of breast cancer, emphasizing the importance of early detection to prevent becoming victims of the disease. During the session, she educated students on the appropriate time for breast examination, advising females to do so 3-5 days after their menstrual cycle, and encouraging males to also regularly check themselves.

Mama Seteakpe called for support from Ghanaians and t
he diaspora to further her mission. The students, during their session in the school’s dining hall, learned about the signs indicating the need for medical consultation and were informed about breast cancer treatment options.

Mr. Keneth Adevu, the Headmaster of the school, expressed his enthusiasm for the initiative and praised the organizers. He urged for the exercise to be continued regularly. Key officials from the Akatsi South Education Directorate also participated, providing students with an opportunity to have their questions answered thoroughly.

The initiative was organized in collaboration with “Young and Smart Ghana,” a Non-Governmental Organization focusing on adolescent, sexual, and reproductive health. The event was themed “No One Should Face Breast Cancer Alone.”
