Bosome Freho MP Criticizes Foreign Affairs Committee’s Independence

Accra:Deputy Ranking Member of Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee, Nana Asafo-Adjei Ayeh, has raised concerns about the lack of independence within the committee's Majority caucus, accusing its members of excessive submissiveness to the Foreign Affairs Minister.

According to Ghana Web, Asafo-Adjei Ayeh argued that this perceived lack of independence has allowed the minister to disregard the committee, undermining its oversight function. During an appearance on TV3's Daily Brief, he claimed that the Majority members seemed more focused on protecting the minister than fulfilling their parliamentary duties.

Asafo-Adjei Ayeh also questioned a statement from the Majority caucus, suggesting it reflected the minister's interests. When asked for evidence that the Foreign Affairs Minister authored the statement for the committee's chairman, Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije, he maintained that the response supported his suspicions.

Furthermore, Asafo-Adjei Ayeh challenged the Majority caucus to present documentary evidence if they disagreed with figures and records presented by the Minority, who had displayed documents to the media to support their claims.
