BoG Increases Forex Bureau Licence Renewal Fee to GHS2,000

Accra: The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has announced a significant revision to the biennial licence renewal fee for all licensed Foreign Exchange Bureaux (FEBs), increasing the fee from GHS500 to GHS2,000. This change is part of the central bank’s ongoing regulatory reforms aimed at enhancing oversight and ensuring the operational sustainability of the sector.

According to Ghana News Agency, the BoG made this announcement via a public notice dated October 24, 2025. The revised fee is effective immediately and applies to all licensed FEBs. The central bank emphasized the importance of adhering to this directive, requiring all FEBs to renew their licences every two years, with submissions due at least two months before the current licence expires.

The directive aligns with Section 10 of the Foreign Exchange Act, 2006 (Act 723), and Paragraph 8 of the Revised Forex Bureau Regulations. The new fee structure represents a 300 per cent increase, reflecting the central bank’s commitment to strengthening the regulatory framework governing foreign exchange operations in the country.
