BoG Governor’s Involvement in GoldBod Sparks Conflict of Interest Concerns – Dr Amin Adam

Accra: The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has urged the removal of Bank of Ghana (BoG) Governor, Dr Johnson Asiama, from his position on the board of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod). This call comes amid allegations that the central bank was aware of losses incurred by the state's gold transactions.

According to Ghana Web, former Finance Minister and NPP member Dr Mohammed Amin Adam addressed a press briefing on September 1, 2026, highlighting the conflict of interest posed by Dr Asiama's dual roles. Dr Adam claimed that the Bank of Ghana has been financially backing GoldBod while Dr Asiama simultaneously serves on its board, leading to potential conflicts as GoldBod's operations reportedly generate financial losses for the country.

Dr Amin Adam further contended that GoldBod lacks the authority to sell and auction foreign currency, underscoring the need for Dr Asiama's removal from the board. He questioned whether the Bank of Ghana was aware of the potential losses from gold transactions, suggesting that a secondary agreement indicated foreknowledge of the purchase and sale prices of gold, raising concerns about potential financial mismanagement.

Moreover, Dr Adam called for the release of the legal document authorizing GoldBod to levy fees, emphasizing the need for transparency regarding the organization's financial dealings. He also insisted on amending GoldBod's 2025 accounts to exclude the GHS4.54 billion government capital injection from its revenue, arguing that it should be recorded as a government investment instead.

The NPP is demanding increased transparency concerning GoldBod's agreements, finances, and operations, particularly in relation to the utilization of public funds.
