Accra: Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Johnson Pandit Asiama, has reiterated his commitment to reducing lending rates in Ghana, stating that it is his personal goal to see interest rates fall below 10% by the time he leaves office. Speaking at the Governor's Roundtable Session during the Kwahu Business Forum, Dr. Asiama emphasized the importance of maintaining a low-interest, stable exchange rate environment.
According to Ghana Web, Dr. Asiama expressed his daily aspiration to achieve this target, noting that it goes beyond routine policy decisions. He stated, "I'm on record to have declared that, for me, my personal prayer each morning is that, by the time I am leaving office, I want to see lending rates below 10%. It is such a necessary condition; there is nothing we can do without it. On our part at the Bank of Ghana, that is what we do."
The Governor highlighted that this target is part of a broader effort to stimulate economic growth and support businesses across the country. He stressed the importance of collective efforts to maintain the financial environment created in the past year, which focuses on low-interest rates and a stable exchange rate.
