Spokesperson of the Ghana Football Association [GFA], Henry Asante Twum has reiterated that the inclusion of Mohammed Salisu will improve the Black Stars ahead of the World Cup in Qatar but the technical team has to make the final decision.

The Southampton central defender has turned down several call-ups to feature for the West African country.

Salisu refused to honor a call-up during the reign of Kwesi Appiah, CK Akonnor, and Milovan Rejevac as Black Stars coaches.

When Otto Addo was named as the interim Black Stars coach, it was reported that the 23-year-old has accepted to feature against Nigeria in the 2022 World Cup playoff in March but Salisu turned down the call-up, citing he needs time.

However, Asante Twum speaking in an interview admitted that the Black Stars will improve with the inclusion of the former Real Valladolid centre-half but the decision is with Otto Addo and the technical team.

“We are engaging a lot of players ahead of the World Cup and we are in the advanced stage,” he told Accra-based Asempa FM.

“The FA will soon come out with the names of the players. With Mohammed Salisu, I have no doubts that he will improve Black Stars but Otto Addo and the Black Stars technical team.

“GFA boss, Kurt Okraku has held talks with him but the final decision is with the coach,” he added.

Mohammed Salisu featured 36 times in all competitions and scored once for Southampton in the just-ended Premier League campaign.

Ghana, who are in Group H will open their campaign against Portugal on November 24 at Stadium 974 in Doha.

Four days later, the Black Stars return to action with a clash with South Korea at the Education City Stadium in Al Rayyan.

Ghana will wrap up their group stage adventure with their much-anticipated encounter with Uruguay at Al Janoub Stadium in Al Wakrah.
