Berekum Chelsea Players Injured After Armed Robbery Attack

Berekum: Berekum Chelsea have confirmed that several players and technical team members sustained injuries after their team bus was attacked by armed robbers while returning from their Ghana Premier League clash against FC Samartex. Communications team member, Albert Diewuo, in an X interaction with Sporty FM, revealed that the team is currently in Bibiani, where they received assistance from the Ghana Police Service after the situation escalated.

According to Ghana Web, about seven players and members of the technical team were affected, although the injuries are not considered serious. Diewuo also raised concerns about inconsistent security arrangements for teams, noting that police escorts are not always available during travel. "Sometimes we travel with security, sometimes we don't. We request police escort if we get it, we go with them; if not, we move on our own. Yesterday, we had no police escort," he said.

Despite the incident, the club has ruled out any possibility of withdrawing from the league. "The team is traumatized after the incident. We will continue with the league and rely on our psychologist to help the players recover for the next games. We are not considering withdrawing," he added.
