Bechem:President John Dramani Mahama has announced that Bechem, located in the Ahafo Region, is set to become the chicken capital of Ghana once the Poultry and Meat Processing Factory becomes operational.
According to Ghana News Agency, President Mahama made this projection during an inspection tour of the factory's construction, which is currently 50 percent complete. This visit was part of his two-day Resetting Ghana Tour in the Ahafo Region.
The factory project had its sod-cutting ceremony on November 27, 2025, and is anticipated to be ready for commissioning by the end of the first quarter of 2027. President Mahama encouraged the youth of Bechem to engage in poultry farming, assuring them of a ready market for their produce.
He emphasized the importance of the poultry value chain, mentioning the Nkoko Nketenkete initiative that was implemented prior to the factory's construction to ensure an ample supply of poultry for processing. The President also highlighted that the factory's completion would result in job creation.
Eric Opoku, the Minister of Food and Agriculture, stated that the Nkoko Nketenkete initiative, launched under the Feed Ghana Programme, has significantly increased Ghana's domestic poultry production from 4.6 percent to 22 percent as of May 2026.
