Accra: The flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has urged the government and citizens of Ghana to prioritize national unity and healing rather than focusing on political retribution. He made this appeal during an Islamic thanksgiving and prayer service held at the National Mosque in Accra.
According to Ghana Web, Bawumia addressed the challenges facing the nation and emphasized the need for reconciliation. He stated that the country has endured significant trials and that the citizens remain under considerable pressure. Bawumia called on the government to avoid actions of retribution, intimidation, or settling political scores, advocating instead for a reduction in tensions and the fostering of a sense of safety and respect among all Ghanaians, irrespective of their political affiliations.
Bawumia, the former Vice President, stressed that Ghana's democracy should not be used as a means for vengeance. He highlighted the importance of dedication to the serious work necessary for the country's advancement, which involves patience, active listening, continuous learning, and unwavering commitment even without public recognition. He emphasized placing the country's interests above personal comfort and duty over ego.
