Accra: Senior Presidential Advisor to President John Dramani Mahama, Joyce Bawah Mogtari, has urged Ghanaian women living abroad to move beyond sending money home and focus on building businesses that can create wealth for future generations. She emphasized the importance of using their skills, experience, and international connections to support Ghana's development rather than concentrating solely on remittances and personal investments.
According to Ghana Web, Bawah Mogtari made her statement in a Facebook post after participating in the EVE Women's Forum USA. The forum, themed 'Legacy and Longevity: Women Building Wealth and Health Across the Diaspora,' focused on the necessity for women to establish businesses and institutions that can endure over time.
She noted that Ghana has made progress in women's leadership, evidenced by the historic election of the country's first female Vice President. However, she stressed that this progress should also translate into stronger economic opportunities for women. Bawah Mogtari urged, "Let us move from remittances to investment, from investment to enterprise, and from enterprise to generational wealth."
Bawah Mogtari emphasized that the future generation should inherit more than the challenges faced by their predecessors. They should also inherit businesses, institutions, investments, and a robust legacy that continues to create opportunities for years to come.
