Aworowa: Residents of Aworowa in the Techiman South Municipality of the Bono East Region are grappling with shock after a 42-year-old cocoa farmer, Mr Kofi Assum, allegedly attempted suicide by severing his manhood. The incident has left the community in disbelief, as Mr Assum was discovered in a dire state, surrounded by a pool of blood.
According to Ghana News Agency, neighbors who found Mr Assum quickly intervened and transported him to the Holy Family Hospital in Techiman for initial medical care. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was later transferred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi for more specialized treatment.
The Ghana News Agency reported that the distressing event took place on Friday, April 17, 2026, around 0600 hours. Madam Grace Adwoa Agyeiwaa, the victim's mother, revealed that her son had been troubled by persistent auditory hallucinations, urging him to inflict self-harm and contemplate suicide.
Mr Collins Akumfi Ameyaw, a close friend of Mr Assum, expressed his shock over the incident, remarking that Mr Assum had not previously shown signs of mental health issues. Health workers at the Holy Family Hospital confirmed that Mr Assum was in critical condition upon admission, which necessitated his transfer to KATH for further medical attention.
