Accra: The Deputy Ranking Member on Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee, Nana Asafo-Adjei Ayeh, has expressed criticism over the handling of travel arrangements for Black Stars midfielder Thomas Partey. He asserted that authorities should have foreseen potential visa complications in preparation for Ghana's participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
According to Ghana Web, Asafo-Adjei Ayeh made his remarks during an appearance on Channel One TV on Saturday, June 13. He highlighted that the issues surrounding Partey were well-known and should have prompted officials to take preemptive actions to prevent any complications. He noted, "One of our star players has had issues with the UK, from an international issue being dragged all over, and this very important player in our team has been selected to play. As a country, we should have anticipated something like this."
The MP expressed dismay over reports that Canadian authorities had denied Partey's visa application, which is expected to exclude the Arsenal midfielder from Ghana's Group L match against Panama in Toronto on June 17, 2026. Asafo-Adjei Ayeh stressed that while he refrained from labeling the situation as negligence, it underscored the necessity for enhanced foresight and planning by those responsible for arranging international assignments for national team players.
