Atwima nwabiagya south: The Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipal Assembly in the Ashanti Region has issued a six-month ultimatum to house owners within the municipality to install domestic toilet facilities or face legal action. The Assembly's byelaws, along with other national legal instruments, will be enforced against those who do not comply with the directive.
According to Ghana News Agency, the notice was signed by Mr. Wisdom Osei Boamah, Chief Executive of the Assembly, and was made public following the second ordinary meeting of the General Assembly on Thursday, October 23, 2025. The moratorium, which spans from February 01 to July 01, 2026, aligns with section six, clause two (a) of the Assembly's byelaws and the National Building, Land Use and Spatial Planning Regulations.
The enforcement is also backed by The Local Governance Act 2016 (Act 936), which mandates the provision of at least one functioning and accessible domestic toilet facility to uphold the health and well-being of residents. Additionally, these legislative instruments require house owners to secure the necessary permits and approvals from the Municipal Assembly prior to commencing any construction or renovation work, with periodic inspections conducted to ensure compliance.
The Assembly's decision aims to rigorously apply these regulations to safeguard environmental sanitation and the safety of the community. "The Assembly is committed to prioritising public health and safety and therefore, works towards the attainment of the sustainable development goal six on clean water and sanitation to promote good health and the prevention of epidemics in the Municipality," the notice concluded.
