Atwima mponua: Mr Issahak Ibrahim, the Atwima Mponua District Chief Executive (DCE), in the Ashanti Region, has cut sod for an infrastructural expansion project at Otaakrom Technical Institute (O.T.I). The GHS7.5 million project is part of the government's effort to upgrade Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions across the country.

According to Ghana News Agency, the facility, which is being constructed by FAPIM Construction Limited, will include a state-of-the-art administration block, classrooms, workshops, and dormitories, all equipped with modern tools and equipment. Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Ibrahim emphasized that the project would enhance the school's infrastructure, thereby promoting technical and vocational training in the district.

Mr Ibrahim acknowledged the efforts of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Social Investment Fund (SIF) and the management of the school in securing Otaakrom Technical Institute's selection as one of four schools nationwide for the TVET project. Mr Abass Nurudeen, the CEO of SIF, noted that this initiative is part of a $28.5 million post-COVID-19 Skills Development and Productivity Programme. This program is funded by the Ministry of Finance in collaboration with the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the OPEC Fund for International Development, aiming to improve infrastructure in TVET schools.

Mr Nurudeen highlighted TVET education as a crucial avenue for countries striving to create employment opportunities for their growing youth population. He expressed confidence that the new facility would boost students' confidence and make TVET schools a more appealing option. Furthermore, he appreciated the local chief and community for providing the land necessary for the project's development.

Mr Samuel Akrasi, the Headmaster of Otaakrom Technical Institute, expressed gratitude to Mr Nurudeen and the DCE for their collaborative efforts in selecting the school for this significant project. He committed to supporting the contractor to ensure the project's timely completion and urged the contractor to involve students in masonry and carpentry, allowing them to gain practical experience.
