Asokore-mampong: Mr Ben Abdullah Alhassan, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Asokore-Mampong, has toured selected farms within the municipality to commend and interact with farmers in anticipation of this year's Farmers' Day celebrations. The visit aimed to understand the challenges faced by farmers and recognize their significant contributions to food security both locally and nationally.
According to Ghana News Agency, the National Farmers' Day is celebrated annually on the first Friday of December to appreciate and reward hardworking farmers for their contributions to national development and food security. Mr. Alhassan emphasized the importance of engaging with farmers to fully grasp the difficulties they encounter and to provide necessary support to enhance productivity and business success.
During the tour, Mr. Alhassan expressed satisfaction with the farming operations he observed and praised the farmers for their hard work and dedication. He encouraged them to maintain high standards and continue their good practices. However, he noted concerns regarding poor road networks that hinder transportation of produce to markets. He assured farmers that the Assembly would engage in consultations to improve road conditions, facilitating better market access and reducing the risk of post-harvest losses.
Farmers expressed their gratitude to the MCE for visiting their farms, noting that it was the first time such an engagement had occurred with a Municipal Chief Executive. They appreciated the attention to their concerns and urged Mr. Alhassan to prioritize road improvements to ease transportation challenges. Such enhancements, they noted, would ensure that their harvests reach markets in good condition, benefiting both farmers and consumers.
Accompanying Mr. Alhassan on the tour were several key officials, including the Municipal Coordinating Director, the Municipal Agric Director, the Municipal NADMO Director, and other officers from the Assembly.
