Washington: The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has arrived in the United States following a two-week working visit.
According to Ghana Web, the Asantehene was warmly received upon arrival by HE Victor Emmanuel Smith, Ghana's Ambassador to the United States; Aisha N Braveboy, Prince George's County Executive; traditional leaders (Nananom); and other dignitaries. A video shared by Opemsuo Radio showed the formal motorcade arrival and subsequent greetings at a private residence, where the monarch was welcomed by members of the Ghanaian community and officials.
The visit is part of a broader programme of engagements designed to strengthen longstanding ties between Ghana and the United States. Key activities during the visit include the opening of Millennium Excellence Week 2026, featuring the MEA Otumfuo Invitational at the Army Navy Country Club in Arlington, Virginia, and related business and cultural events organised under the Millennium Excellence Foundation.
The itinerary will culminate in the grand Akwasidae Kese celebration scheduled for August 30, 2026, at Bowie State University in Maryland. This event is set to be a significant highlight of the visit, drawing attention to the cultural richness and historical ties between the two nations.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II departed Kumasi's Prempeh I International Airport on Sunday, August 23, 2026, following a ceremonial send-off by senior traditional leaders of Asanteman, the Ashanti Regional Minister, and other officials.
