Artisans Laud Presidential Appointment of Member as Municipal Chief Executive

Kumasi: The Ghana National Association of Garages (GNAG) has expressed its commendation for President John Dramani Mahama following his decision to appoint a member of their association, Mr. Wisdom Osei Boamah, as the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Atwima Nwabiagya South.

According to Ghana News Agency, the commendation was made by Alhaji Luqman Mohammed Nuhu Appiadu, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of GNAG, during a sod-cutting ceremony for the construction of a clinic and nurses’ quarters at Atwima-Mim in the Ashanti region. Alhaji Appiadu highlighted the appointment as a step towards inclusivity and the acknowledgment of individuals with technical and vocational skills.

The facility, which marks a significant development in the area, is being funded by the municipal assembly’s portion of the district assemblies’ common fund. Alhaji Appiadu noted that appointments to roles such as the MCE have traditionally been held by university graduates and individuals from influential backgrounds. However, he praised President Mahama for recognizing that artisans, with their practical skills and self-established businesses, are equally competent for leadership roles.

He emphasized that artisans and those with practical expertise play a critical role in nation-building, on par with other professionals. Alhaji Appiadu also remarked that the unanimous endorsement Mr. Boamah received from assembly members during his confirmation underscores his ability to spearhead the municipality’s transformation agenda.

Alhaji Appiadu described the appointment as a demonstration of all-inclusiveness and an acknowledgment of the talents and potential of all individuals, including artisans, without discrimination. He also praised Mr. Boamah’s performance in his first seven months in office.

Additionally, the Regional GNAG announced plans to offer free fitting apprenticeships to interested youth, aiming to complement the government’s Free Apprenticeship Program. This initiative, once the development of a 26-acre land is complete, will serve as a gesture of appreciation to the president.

The planned artisanal hub is set to be affiliated with the Otumfuo Education Fund to provide both theoretical and practical training for young people in the area and beyond. Alhaji Appiadu called on the government, Technical and Vocational Training Institutions, and other related stakeholders to support the association’s vision.
