Accra: Members of the pressure group, Arise Ghana, gathered around the United States Embassy in Accra, demanding the extradition of Kenneth Ofori-Atta, former Minister of Finance, from the United States to Ghana. The demonstration, which took place along the roads leading to the Embassy, was monitored by a heavy police presence to ensure the safety of participants and surrounding property.
According to Ghana News Agency, the demonstrators, dressed in red T-shirts, carried placards with messages such as 'Ofori-Atta collapsed Ghana,' 'Ken must come and account,' 'Bring Ken back to Ghana,' and 'Ken's stewardship killed the Ghanaian economy.' Among the demonstrators was Hopeson Adorye, a member of the United Party, who expressed his full support for the actions of Arise Ghana, stating that the former Finance Minister must return to Ghana to face justice and account for his actions.
Bernard Mornah, the Convener of Arise Ghana, expressed hope for an expedited process leading to the extradition of Ofori-Atta to Ghana. Ofori-Atta is scheduled to appear before a United States immigration court in Virginia over alleged visa overstaying, following his detention by the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The court appearance is expected to determine the next steps regarding his immigration status in the United States.
