Accra, June 29, GNA—Police intelligence indicates that some demonstrators are acquiring catapults with the intention of using them during the ongoing Arise Ghana demonstration.
A news brief from the Police has cautioned people who intended to foment trouble to desist from such unlawful acts, adding that, the police would take all necessary professionally driven measures to enforce the law and protect life and property.
Arise Ghana started its two-day demonstration on Tuesday to protest worsening economic conditions in the country.
The day one of the protest resulted in a clash with the police when the demonstrators decided to use routes leading to the Jubilee House, contrary to court orders.
The violence led to 12 police officers sustaining various degrees of injuries, with some Police vehicles damaged.
The statement said the 12 Police officers, who sustained injuries were treated in the Police Mobile Hospitals.
They have since been transferred to the Police Hospital for further treatment.
So far, 29 people have been arrested for their participation in the violent attacks.
The Police said they would also arrest organisers of the demonstration and put them before the courts “for the attacks and damage to public property, in line with the provisions of Section 3 of the Public Order Act, (Act 491).”
