Antoine Semenyo to Miss November AFCON Qualifiers Due to Injury

Manchester:Ghanaian winger Antoine Semenyo is expected to be out of action for about two months following an injury. This development will prevent him from participating in Ghana's 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers scheduled for November 2026.

According to Ghana Web, Semenyo's injury occurred during a match where he played as a substitute for Manchester City, which won 3-2 against Ipswich Town at the Etihad Stadium. Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca revealed at a press conference that medical scans indicated the winger would be sidelined for approximately eight weeks.

Maresca noted that the initial concern was a severe injury, but the scans showed it was less serious than feared. He expressed optimism about Semenyo's recovery, expecting him to return by December with renewed energy. The manager acknowledged the impact of Semenyo's absence on team selection but remained confident that other players could fill the gap.

Semenyo's absence is a significant blow to the Black Stars as they face crucial matches against Somalia in November. Interim head coach Kim Lars Björkegren must now depend on other team members to secure victories, as failure could result in Ghana missing AFCON qualification for the second time in a row.
