Keta: The Anlo Queens Council has honoured its Founder, Mama Deawofe II, for her visionary leadership and instrumental role in the formation of the Council, describing her contribution as foundational to its unity, purpose, and enduring relevance. Speaking at a ceremony in Keta, Mama Wotorbe II, the President of the Council, highlighted Mama Deawofe II's initiative of bringing queen mothers together under a unified platform grounded in service, collective responsibility, and royal dignity.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mama Wotorbe II praised the Founder's foresight, wisdom, and unwavering commitment, noting that her servant leadership continued to guide and inspire the Council's work. Mama Wotorbe II emphasized that Mama Deawofe II's legacy remains the bedrock of the Council's unity and strength.
Receiving the honour, Mama Deawofe II, Queen of the Azadagli Stool of Tegbi Agbedrafor, expressed heartfelt appreciation for the recognition, describing it as an affirmation of selfless service. She expressed joy at being honoured, stating that societal recognition signifies the impact of one's work.
She also outlined a renewed vision for the Council, focusing on women and youth empowerment through vocational and skills training. Mama Deawofe II highlighted the Council's intent to collaborate with stakeholders to support training in trades like hairdressing, tailoring, beauty therapy, and other employable skills.
Mama Deawofe II emphasized the importance of encouraging girls to pursue any vocation of their choice, including non-traditional fields such as electrical and technical works, advocating for the capabilities of young women in all areas.
However, she acknowledged the challenge of limited financial and logistical resources hindering the Council's activities. The absence of a dedicated vehicle, she noted, makes it difficult for queen mothers to regularly engage with and support the youth in communities.
Mama Deawofe said the Council plans to engage key national stakeholders, including Members of Parliament, Ministers of State, and the President, to seek support for its programmes. She remains optimistic that with collective effort and divine guidance, the Council will secure the necessary resources to implement its initiatives, including skills training for young women and support for persons with disabilities.
Mama Deawofe expressed hope that by the following year, meaningful achievements would be realized, with the grace of God.
