Accra: Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) presidential aspirant Amanda Clinton has urged the Ghana Football Association to consider appointing Fernando Santos, a seasoned Portuguese coach, as the new head coach for the Black Stars. The national team is in search of a new leader following the departure of Otto Addo, who was dismissed after a disappointing series of pre-World Cup friendly matches.
According to Ghana Web, the Ghanaian football governing body is expected to announce a new head coach soon. Otto Addo's exit came after Ghana suffered a heavy 5-1 loss to Austria and a 2-1 defeat against Germany. The search for his successor has seen several prominent names linked to the role, including Carlos Queiroz, Paulo Bento, Tom Saintfiet, and Slaven Bilic.
In an interview with Citi Sports, Amanda Clinton expressed her strong support for Santos, emphasizing his suitability for the position. She highlighted his impressive track record in international football, noting that he could be the right candidate to lead the Black Stars to success. Santos is known for his achievements, including leading Portugal to victory at the 2016 UEFA European Championship and the UEFA Nations League.
The Ghana FA is expected to finalize and announce their decision this week as they prepare for upcoming international fixtures. The Black Stars are set to regroup in May for a friendly match against Mexico, followed by a game against Wales on June 2. Ghana, represented by the national football team, has been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England, and Croatia for the 2026 World Cup in North America.
