Kumasi: Akosua Serwaa, widow of the late highlife legend Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, has initiated legal proceedings against Victor Kofi Owusu, also known as Abusuapanin Tupac, and Alex Kofi Boadi Ampong. The lawsuit pertains to allegations questioning the legitimacy of her marriage to the late musician and the authenticity of her German marriage certificate.
According to Ghana Web, the lawsuit has been filed at the Kumasi High Court and seeks several legal remedies. These include a declaration that the statements made by the defendants were false and defamatory, an injunction to prevent further dissemination of such claims, a public retraction and apology, and damages amounting to GHS3 million. The controversy stemmed from Victor Kofi Owusu's appearance on UTV's United Showbiz programme on November 29, 2025, where he allegedly claimed that Akosua Serwaa's marriage certificate was fraudulent.
The plaintiff argues that the statements made during the programme were defamatory as they misrepresented her marital status and questioned the authenticity of an official German civil-status document. She firmly denies the accusations that the marriage certificate was forged or fabricated in Ashanti New Town or any other location in Kumasi.
The lawsuit also addresses further publications and alleged reputational harm. It identifies Alex Kofi Boadi Ampong, known as Sir Alex, as the second defendant, highlighting his role as the Public Relations Officer for Victor Kofi Owusu. Akosua Serwaa claims that similar allegations were reiterated on various platforms on June 8, 2026, and July 5, 2026, further impacting her reputation.
The plaintiff emphasizes that the publications have severely affected her professional and personal image. She notes that the allegations have tarnished her reputation as a nurse in Germany, undermining her integrity and trustworthiness, which are crucial in her field. Furthermore, she alleges that the claims have cast doubt on her status as Daddy Lumba's lawful widow and her rightful position in relation to his estate.
In her plea for justice, Akosua Serwaa seeks a court declaration that the allegations were false and defamatory. She requests a perpetual injunction preventing the defendants from making any further claims about her marriage certificate's authenticity or her marital status with Daddy Lumba. Additionally, she demands a retraction and public apology from the defendants, with specific instructions on how these should be disseminated across various media platforms.
