Akatsi South: Ayitikpoe community gets new kindergarten block and water facility

Ayitikope (VR), June 2, GNA- The Valco Trust Fund, the charity wing of Volta Aluminum Company Limited (VALCO) has commissioned a newly constructed modern Kindergarten block for the Ayitikope MA Primary School in the Volta region.

The move was in line with efforts by the government to eradicate schools under trees in the country.

The modern building, among other units, had been fitted with modern water closets, a mechanised borehole system, a dining room, a storeroom, a headteacher’s office, washrooms for staff and pupils, and a playground.

Togbui Katsekpor IV, the ‘Dufia’ of Ayitikope who witnessed the short commissioning ceremony, implored all actors in the educational sector to step up efforts in the fight what he called ‘school infrastructural deficit’ “so our children can become great personalities in future.”

He commended the donors for contributing to the need for quality education in the country.

Togbui Katsekpor further called for more projects to be brought to other adjoining communities.

He charged authorities of the school to exhibit good maintenance culture for the building.

Madam Eugenia Obodai, the Akatsi South Municipal Director of the National Commission for Civic Education, highlighted Article 41 of the 1992 Constitution which called for good ‘Citizenship.’

Mr Jerry Etse Agbo, the Assembly member for the area under whose efforts the project was brought to the community, disclosed to the Ghana News Agency that, the initiative was a collaboration between the Ministry of Energy which was led by the Valco Trust fund.

He commended the donors and further expressed his hope that similar events would be extended to some schools in the area.

Mr Moses Agbozo, the site engineer of the project, told the GNA the project commenced from June 4 to December 31, last year.

Mr Gershon Agbozo, the headteacher of the school, disclosed to the GNA the facility would bring some relief to over 30 pupils of the kindergarten level.

Mrs Sandra Gbedema, a 25-year-old mother of two, expressed her happiness to the donors for coming to their aid.

The Valco Trust Fund initiated the “Zero Schools Under Trees Project” to eradicate the unpleasant situation in Ghana where some schools without adequate classroom infrastructure were forced to hold their classes under trees.

Officials from the Akatsi South Education Directorate, Municipal Assembly staff, parents, and others witnessed the event.
