Kadjebi: The Communications Officer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Akan Constituency, Oti Region, Mr Frank Adjei-Worlanyo, has declared his support for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as the Party's preferred candidate for the 2028 presidential elections.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr Adjei-Worlanyo, speaking at Kadjebi in the Oti Region, emphasized that Dr Bawumia, who served as Vice-President from 2017 to 2025, remains the most strategically positioned individual to lead the Party back to power. He referred to a consistent historical pattern in Ghana's Fourth Republic to support his endorsement.
He explained that Ghana's democratic journey since 1992 has been marked by peaceful transitions of power, often following a recurring trend where candidates who lost previous elections later returned to win subsequent ones. Tracing the electoral outcomes, Mr Adjei-Worlanyo noted the transfer of power from former President Jerry John Rawlings to John Agyekum Kufuor in 2000; from Mr Kufuor to the late Professor John Evans Atta Mills in 2008; from President John Dramani Mahama to Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in 2016; and most recently, from President Akufo-Addo back to Mr Mahama in 2025.
According to him, these transitions suggest what he referred to as 'an unbroken cycle' in which losing candidates eventually emerge victorious in later contests. He argued that this pattern now places Dr Bawumia in a favourable position ahead of the 2028 general election.
Mr Adjei-Worlanyo stated: 'History shows that candidates who lose to an eventual president often return to win the next election. Dr Bawumia, having contested in 2024, stands as the next logical beneficiary of this democratic rhythm.' He urged NPP delegates and stakeholders to consider this historical trajectory as they prepare for future internal Party decisions, emphasizing that the Party stands to benefit from aligning with what he described as the 'predictable rhythm' of Ghana's electoral transitions.
He also noted that Ghana's democracy has matured into a system where power has consistently alternated between the two major political parties, reinforcing the need for strategic political planning grounded in historical precedent. Mr Adjei-Worlanyo expressed confidence that if the trend continues, Dr Bawumia would be well positioned to lead the NPP to victory in 2028 and restore the Party to government.
