Agona nyakrom: The Agona West Municipal Assembly has organised an 'accounting to the people forum' to create a platform for government officials in the area to give account of their stewardship to the people. Mr Eric Gyamfi Odoom, the Municipal Chief Executive, and Mrs Ernestina Ofori Dangbey, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Agona West, briefed the gathering on how they had utilised their share of the District Assembly's Common Fund from the central government.
According to Ghana News Agency, the forum also provided citizens the opportunity to ask questions, offer suggestions, and highlight issues such as unemployment, bad roads, and lack of basic social amenities, urging authorities to address them. Mr Ekow Panyin Okyere Eduamoah, the Central Regional Minister, emphasized that the forum, instituted by President John Mahama, aimed to allow Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) and MPs to account for state funds allocated for developmental projects.
The Minister further stated the initiative ensures equitable distribution of infrastructural projects to all communities, irrespective of their voting preferences in the last elections. Commending the Agona West Municipal Chief Executive for fostering unity and collaboration, Mr Eduamoah noted that such cohesion promotes development and transformation in people's lives.
During the event, the Regional Minister commissioned a six-classroom block at Agona Kwaman and a police station at Agona Nyakrom, projects initiated in 2016 to enhance local security. He also directed the Agona West Municipal Assembly to assume management of an Astro Turf at Nyakrom, previously managed privately, to maximize community benefits.
Mr Eric Gyamfi Odoom, the MCE, detailed that the Assembly had distributed 600 dual desks to basic schools and received an additional 200 metal desks for further distribution. He also highlighted the completion of 27 boreholes, with 19 mechanised, to alleviate water crises in several communities including Agona Nyakrom and Agona Kwaman.
The Assembly has taken over the construction of male and female wards at Nyakrom Health Centre, progressing on a self-help legacy project initiated by local chiefs and residents. Additionally, the Assembly completed a health centre at Agona Ahamadonko and a police station project at Agona Nyakrom.
Mrs Ernestina Ofori Dangbey, MP for Agona West, attributed the completion of many projects, including stalled educational structures and storm drains, to her cooperation with the MCE. She urged MMDCEs and MPs to collaborate for constituency and district development, enhancing livelihoods.
Okofo Katakyi Nyakoh Eku X, Omanhene of Agona Nyakrom Traditional Area, praised the government for organizing the forum, enabling citizens to voice their local governance concerns. He appealed for the provision of an electricity transformer for Agona Nkum to resolve low voltage issues and the continuation of a stalled toilet project at Agona Nyakrom.
