Accra: The Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin, has called on the newly elected regional chairmen of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to align closely with the flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, as the party gears up for the 2028 elections. This message comes following the recent regional executive elections held on August 15, 2026.
According to Ghana Web, Afenyo-Markin emphasized the need for chairmen from the Eastern, Central, Greater Accra, and Ashanti regions to form a strategic alliance with Dr. Bawumia. He noted that these regions are pivotal to the NPP's electoral success due to their significant voter populations. The Minority Leader highlighted Greater Accra's status as the most populous region and Central Region's critical role in determining presidential election outcomes. He also pointed out the necessity of leveraging influential figures within the party, particularly in the Eastern and Ashanti regions.
Afenyo-Markin further cautioned against internal competition and the influence of ego among party executives, urging them to focus on vote maximization and regional cooperation. He stressed the importance of understanding constituency dynamics and working with key party members like Okoe Boye to capture a substantial number of parliamentary seats in the Greater Accra Region.
Additionally, Afenyo-Markin lauded Chairman COKA for his dedication and urged collaboration with senior party figures such as Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh. The NPP's recent electoral outcomes saw new chairmen elected in some regions and the retention of incumbents in others, with notable figures like Dr. Bernard Okoe Boye, Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, Jeff Konadu Addo, and Joseph Kobinah Esibu playing central roles in the party's strategic plans moving forward.
