Winneba: The Minority Leader in Parliament and Member of Parliament for Effutu, Osahen Alexander Afenyo-Markin, captured the attention of attendees at the annual Aboakyir Festival in Winneba. The festival, a significant cultural event in the region, saw Afenyo-Markin donning elaborate traditional attire, including a striking hat, which drew the admiration of many on May 2, 2026. His appearance was further enhanced by a white scarf elegantly draped around his neck, as he was accompanied by two women who fanned him while he sat in a dignified manner on a traditional stool. The crowd was thrilled when Afenyo-Markin stood to showcase his dance skills, accompanied by the rhythm of drummers at the celebration.
According to Ghana Web, the festival also featured the participation of Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, who reiterated the government's commitment to developing Effutu into a significant tourism and economic center. In a social media post shared on the same day, Prof Opoku-Agyemang emphasized the festival's role in cultural preservation and economic development. She highlighted the government's strategic focus on improving infrastructure and cultural enterprises to transform Effutu into a thriving tourism hub that could generate employment and stimulate local economic growth.
The Vice President further outlined the flagship programmes under the leadership of John Dramani Mahama's administration. These included the Women's Development Bank, aimed at enhancing financing opportunities for market women and small businesses. Additionally, the rollout of the 24-Hour Economy policy will introduce round-the-clock markets nationwide, complemented by youth-focused initiatives like Adwumawura, which seeks to transform innovative ideas into successful business ventures.
