Accra: Mr. Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, the Minority Leader, on Tuesday called for the heads of three major hospitals in the Greater Accra region to appear before Parliament's Health Committee regarding the alleged denial of medical care to the late Charles Amissah, a hit-and-run victim.
According to Ghana News Agency, the hospitals involved are Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, Police Hospital, and Greater Accra Regional Hospital. These institutions allegedly refused treatment to Mr. Amissah, who later died on Friday, February 6, 2026. Mr. Afenyo-Markin emphasized the need for accountability, stating, "Mr. Speaker, the matter cannot be left unresolved. Any individual found culpable must be sanctioned to serve as a deterrent."
In a formal statement on the floor of Parliament, Mr. Afenyo-Markin highlighted the significance of the issue, mentioning Mr. Amissah's previous role as an engineer with Promasidor Ghana Limited, well-known for products such as Cowbell Milk. He demanded access to duty rosters, bed occupancy records, and an investigation into potential breaches of the 2018 Ghana Health Service directive.
"If misconduct is established, sanctions must follow; if negligence is proven, prosecution must follow," he asserted. Mr. Afenyo-Markin, who is also the New Patriotic Party Member of Parliament for Effutu, urged law enforcement to intensify efforts to locate the hit-and-run driver responsible for the incident. He concluded, "Mr. Speaker, let us deploy every resource. to track down and apprehend this individual."
